Following last week’s strong start to Shrivenham’s Kennet League campaign, a 12-2 win over Wantage on home soil, it was time for the first away fixture, against newly promoted Prospect Park.
Looking to continue the early season momentum, it was a fast start from the team, racing into a 29-9 overall lead at the 5 end mark. Shrivenham continued to build on this, and at the halfway point, the sky blues had increased the gap to 32 shots, 49-17.
Mikey Titcombe’s rink led 17-2, Elliott Winskill’s rink held a similar scoreline of 16-2. At this point, Tom Clough was being kept to just a 4-shot advantage, leading 10-6. Mark Hancock’s quartet were locked in a tough battle, and trailed 6-7.
It was at this point that the foot went onto the accelerator. Tom’s rink won every end in the second half of the match and eased away to a 32-6 victory. Mark’s rink scored back-to-back 3’s to get out in front, and did not let up, winning all of the final 4 ends of the game to secure their 2 points with a 16-10 victory. Mikey and Elliott’s rinks continued to pull away, and recorded 30-6 and 29-7 winning scorelines respectively.
An emphatic 14-0, 107-29 victory for Shrivenham in their first away match of the season. The next 2 weeks provide tough tests for our squad, with a home tie vs Tilehurst, followed by a trip to Hagbourne for the second away fixture of the campaign.
